The Multinational Observer Group (MOG) met with the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, and Fijian Elections Office (FEO) staff on 1 October. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the role and responsibilities of the MOG in the lead up to the Fijian General Election, as well as the MOG’s relationship with the FEO.
Mr Saneem welcomed the arrival of MOG members, and said that the FEO would actively support the MOG’s observer activities. He also looked forward to further MOG observers arriving in Fiji shortly.
The MOG Observer Coordinator, Alice Cawte, said that the team understood the importance of its work and looked forward to performing its role.
“We want to assure the people and government of Fiji that we will be undertaking our work in a professional, independent and transparent manner,” said Ms Cawte.
“It is important that the people of Fiji have confidence in their electoral process.”
During the meeting, the FEO also provided five MOG observers with their official accreditation. This was in addition to the two MOG observers who were accredited last week.
